The Great Canadian Gaming Corp has announced that it succeeded in signing definitive deals with the Ontario Government regarding the transition funding fot horse racing. This funding is going to provide support that would help the continuity of the horse racing activities at Flamboro Downs and Georgian Downs racetracks that belong to the company for two more years starting from the 31st of March of 2013 as the horse racing industry in Ontario adapts a more sustainable business model.
According to the terms of the agreements, the Company is going to get transition funding from the government of the provincial of Ontario for the race track operations at the Flamboro Downs and Georgian Downs horse racing tracks. During the 12 month period that will end on the 31st of March in 2014, the company estimated that the Georgian Downs racetrack will run 25 race days over a 3-month period while the Flamboro Downs race track is expected to run almost 100 race days during the 6-month period. These numbers will still have to be approved by the Racing Commission of Ontario.
Mr. Howard Blank, the VP of Communications for the Great Canadian Company has stated that the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Agriculture of Ontario have been very helpful. He also added that they appreciate their efforts that enabled them to be in business and to continue hosting horse races at the two facilities. He also said that they are committed to work with the government of Ontario to pursue a more sustainable and a longer business model for horse racing tracks in Ontario.
