Canadian players have been dominating the WSOP of this year. In addition to the previous bracelets that were won by Canadian players, the 20th WSOP winner’s bracelet was claimed by Calen McNeil who owns and runs a restaurant in Victoria in the province of British Colombia. He came out on top in the $1500 buy in Hi Low Omaha event and came back home 277,274 dollars richer.
Calen McNeil has successfully worked his way through a very talented field that contained 1013 players. This great field of players contributed into creating the prize pool of the competition that amounted to 1,368,900 dollars.
The final table in the event includes Calen McNeil facing professional poker players such as Can Kim Hua, Tony Ma, Won Goag, Dao Bac, Todd Burnson and John Monette. The final table witnessed heated competition that thinned down to Can Kim Hua and Calen McNeil. This head-to-head competition took the game into a 4th day, which was unscheduled. At the end, Calen McNeil succeeded in coming out on top and sent his rival with a second place prize that amounted to 171,577 dollars.
Calen McNeil was more than happy with his first World Series of Poker bracelet. He also added that he sharpened his poker skills while he was recovering from a very serious illness. He said that poker and chess helped him exercise his brain while enhancing his skills and play, and his recent win at the WSOP shows how well he learned and practiced the game of poker.
