Eugene Melnyk Ottawa Casino Plan Fails Once Again

Eugene Melnyk, the Ottawa Senators owner has stated that he will not have the ability to make any further investments in the city or the team after he was slapped by the overwhelming vote in the city hall against his investment plans to establish a new casino in his Kanata hockey arena. This is not the first time the city hall has voted against a project of his as he was previously thwarted in his effort in order to turn the Canadian Tire Centre to a hub for major league football and hockey. With a ten to one vote at the finance committee of the city council, it ended his dreams.

Eugene Melnyk has stated that there is not a third plan, just before the city hall went on with its voting process. He went to Ottawa this last Tuesday and he came out of his black Escalade to the City Hall and he had his right hand man at his side, Ken Villazor as well as Cyril Leeder, the Senators president.

Eugene Melnyk stated that the senators lose money from the hockey operations, although that the Ottawa entertainment empire still succeeds in making money off concerts but the business has changed and it is not what it once was. He has set a cap of 50 million dollars on salaries and he can’t possibly afford to pay more than that and that he will have to re shape the team into an inexpensive, young and an amateur team that will need a lot of luck in order to win.
