There are indications that the group that proudly own the Ottawa Senators might start taking the Ottawa city to the court of law due to the site selection process for the new and potential casino in the city. This statement was made by the lawyer of the group. The person that represents Capital Sports & Entertainment, Paul Webber, has stated that the process that the city is undergoing in order to choose the location of the casino is unethical as well as illegal. He made such statement at the finance & economic development committee of the city alongside Cyril Leeder, the president of the team and Eugene Melnyk, the owner.
Eugene Melnyk has been openly criticizing the Mayor of the city of Ottawa, Jim Watson and the councilors of the city because of their support and their choice of the Rideau-Carleton Raceway to be the location of a new Ottawa casino. Eugene Melnyk has already paid for 2 full page ads in a newspaper throughout the last 2 months which shows that he has been planning for a casino in Kanata for the last 7 years.
The Ottawa Senators owner has stated that the financial future of the team can be endangered if the team does not succeeded in finding a new source of revenue like the casino. As for the lawyer of the team, he threatened to pursue the city legally in a court of law for their actions as well as blaming the OLG for putting the Ottawa city in the situation it is in now.
