Ottawa Senators Owner Responds to the Snubbing of his Canadian Casino Plans

The decision of the city council of Ottawa to snub the proposal of the Ottawa Senators Owner to open a new Canadian Gambling casino in the city had its consequences. The Owner, Melnyk, is going to leave his position that he had as a part of the task force that the Ottawa city has appointed to plan the celebration in Ottawa for the 150th birthday of Canada that is going to take place in 4 years, in 2017.

The Owner of the Ottawa Senators hockey team, Eugene Melnyk, also left his position on the committees that serve the National Arts and Tourism Centre as well as his position on the Ottawa Convention Centre’s board. So basically, the Ottawa Senators Owner has left his positions that would help the public life of the Canadian city of Ottawa just 2 weeks following the vote of the city council against the Canadian casino plan that he proposed. He hoped to be able to build a new casino and an entertainment centre in the Canadian Tire Centre in Kanata. In response of what Melnyk did, Marianne Wilkinson of Kanata North County stated that she was not surprised of his reaction and that these are a few of the things that he can do.

Eugene Melnyk did not expect that the council of the city would simply approve and support the proposal as he asked the council to have an open and a public competition regarding the possibility of establishing a new casino in the city. When he made the request, he had Cyril Leeder by his side. Despite that it was a reasonable proposal regarding the open competitions, the council of the Canadian city of Ottawa, led by Mayor Jim Watson, has decided to inform the OLG that the city would prefer it if the gaming and casino activities be restricted in its existing located at the Rideau Carleton Raceway.
