Online Poker – the If’s and Maybe’s in the Game

With the internet gambling industry in the country now reaching to a staggering $6 billion, lawmakers and the common lot is still confused about the future of this industry in terms of legal issues. Online poker, casino games and sports betting are now freely available throughout U.S.; however, people continue to debate its future existence. The recent publication of articles in this regard by experts on the subject still does not offer a concluding solution.

FairPlay USA and Online Poker

FairPlay USA went as far as to offer a game plan, claiming that the federal laws were not being helpful. It reportedly said that online poker had become one of America’s favorite games, and with the federal regulations not working, the scenario looked much similar to that of “wild west”. The firm said it was also concerned that there were no laws to prevent minors from gambling online and no steps had yet been taken to ensure consumer protection. US lawyer, Mr. Anthony Cabot, also backed this. In his article, he pointed out five reasons why the congress would pass the matter, and an equal number of reasons to argue that it will not.

Future of Online Poker

Of late, there have been discussions and debates on the future of online poker. However, one thing that most people agree to, and as also stated on the FairPlay USA’s website, is that the regulation of internet poker in the country would commit the protection of the players. It also said that the job opportunities and the revenues associated with the process must also be realized in the US itself.
