It has been finally confirmed by the Spanish govt. of internal affairs that the regulatory authority of Spain would in fact meet the date that it has set to issue the needed licenses to the different operators who applied for such license. This date was set to be the 1st of June of this year. There have been a lot of rumors and doubts concerning this as a result of the many changes in the staff accompanied by a history of postponing such licensing. This came as a result that the Spanish govt. already postponed the licensing date from April to June, so everyone expected that it would be postponed further more.
Another main thing that helped with the doubts concerning the ability of the Spanish gambling regulators to meet the deadline was a statement by Brian Mattingley, the CEO of 888 Holdings. As he stated that he has visited Madrid to assess the situation of the licenses, and the Spanish regulatory answered that the authority would need extra time, more than the date that was set, the 1st of June deadline.
According to reports, more than fifty nine different internet gambling operators have applied for such license to work legally within the Spanish market. The statement that was announced by the Spanish Govt. stated two main points. The first point is that once the online gambling operator acquires the license, it will be able to start working on the spot. The second point is that any “In Play” kind of wagering will not be permitted.
