The attention of the entire world in terms of online gambling is focused on the States of America after the legalization of online gambling in three states with more states proposing bills for online gambling and intrastate poker. The latest state to propose a bill is Iowa, the Midwestern state. The state of Iowa has taken the first step towards online gambling after the proposed legislation that would legalize internet poker was accepted by the Senate subcommittee.
This bill is entitled the Senate Study Bill 1068. This bill was proposed for the first time in January by Jeff Danielson, the Iowa State Sen. This bill is basically a copy of the Senate Study Bill 1165 that was proposed in 2011. This bill discusses the requirements that would have to be established by the Hawkeye state that would allow it to issue licenses for intrastate internet poker.
If this bill is signed into law, it would enable the twenty-one licensed casinos in the state to offer internet poker services to the registered residents of the state of Iowa. This would result in an estimated tax revenue of fifteen million dollars. The senator, Jeff Danielson, who proposed the bill, stated that the main goal is legalizing online poker. He said that there are a lot of expectations and ideas that people have regarding internet gambling and that he does not approve and support many of them, even in poker, there are different aspects.
He stated that poker is now a socially accepted game in all of the United states and it is very popular among all adults. It is socially acceptable outside and inside of casinos. Since Iowa does not have any legal framework to regulate that or protect players, it means that Iowa has a legal limbo, which puts the residents of Iowa in a very awkward position. Also, not understanding how this affects the economy can create a whole set of problems as well
This is why the bill is considered a very narrow bill as it legalizes online poker through casinos that the residents of Iowa know and trust. The bill features the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission as the commission responsible for instituting the requirements, this includes technical standards and security measures for the provision of internet poker.
