The government in Singapore is taking note of actions that can be made against online gambling to restrict online gambling access out of the jurisdictional reach of authorities in Singapore as reported by the Cannel New Asia publication. There is current work with industry experts by officials to outline and learn from other jurisdictions to create a strategy to combat online gambling. They will report their recommendations before the end of 2013.
The initiative for those against online gambling was brought to light by Second Minister for Home Affairs S. Iswaran at the Casino Regulatory Authority’s (CRA) work session Friday. The minister is reported to have said that online gambling is a new and more addictive way to gamble with higher access to the vulnerable and young. He goes on to say that those risks will more likely be more broad once there is evolution in the supporting technology for online gambling.
Iswaran, also being a minister in the Prime Minister’s office, has stated that there three concerns for Singapore population with social risk that come along with online gambling being as it is easily accessible and these concerns are shared by the government. Crime among land casinos that hold an Asian nation license has dropped as told to the CRA since 2010 and the casinos have caught and put a stop to over 28,000 minor attempts and also about 15,000 attempts by excluded persons to enter these casinos. The CRA is also working alongside Home Team Behavioral Sciences Center to research the psychological profile of local casino gamblers to take into count a greater understanding of gaming behavior.
