The OLG is Critizied for CEO Paycheck

The OLG (Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation) is taking heavy fire because of the extremely big paychecks that it gives to the top executives of the group, despite the current economical situation in Canada and around the world. This is because the CEO of the OLG, Rod Phillips was paid a total of 673,000 dollars last year, which included a bonus of 297,989 dollars. This is seventy-three percent more than what Kelly McDougald, the previous CEO of the OLG, earned back in 2008, as he earned 388,041 only.

In response and in the defense of the huge bump in the paycheck for the CEO of the OLG, Paul Godfrey, the Chair of the OLG, stated that Rod Phillips could earn more than this amount if he decided to move to the private sector. This is why he believes that the public sector should be glad that he decided to stay with this job.

The problem comes from the fact that for numerous years, the OCC (Ontario Crown Corporations) didn’t pay a lot of its employees by freezing their wages according to the orders of the govt. and the workers of the OLG were included. On the other hand, the top executives of the OLG continued getting paid, despite the wage freeze that the Ontario Government has implemented. This is why the figures that Rod Philips was earning didn’t sit well with the employees of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, especially the ones who had their wages frozen.
