North Bay Mayor, Al McDonald, seems to be slightly against the possibility of the establishment of a new casino in his Canadian city of North Bay. He stated that despite that the city council voted this previous year in the favor of the new casino, it was only a proposal and a possibility rather than a final say in the matter. He said that he was not informed that the province was planning to locate a new casino in his city and that he only found out about this by reading online news. He stated that it was a complete surprise for him and that this new casino was dumped on their laps.
The mayor added that when the city council voted yes on a new casino in North Bay, it came with certain terms and conditions and it still gave the council the ability to tell the Canadian province that the city is not prepared for the casino yet, so it was not a final decision regarding the matter. He added that it is the least of his priorities and that the casino proposal and project papers are sitting at the bottom of the pile of work that he is currently looking into.
On the other hand, he did admit that the additional two million dollars that the city will get in the form of casino revenue will certainly be helpful as well as the two hundred jobs. Nonetheless, he is not excited for the idea of the casino itself. All of this shows that the mayor, so far, does not have a final decision regarding the North Bay casino, because despite all what was said, he did not outright refuse the proposal. In response, Derek Shogren, the District Chamber of Commerce and North Bay president was surprised at the reaction of the mayor and his lack of interest in the North Bay Casino.
