Canadian Poker Tour Back on Track

Canadian Poker Tour Back on Track and in Force in Canada for 2014 Season

Most of Canada’s professional poker players are back in action as the 2014 Canadian Poker Tour (CPT) has already kicked-off and will proceed to run throughout the country for this year’s full season events. Actually, the CPT did not take place in 2013 as the people behind the tournament devoted their time last year, in revamping the competition’s point structure.

The poker tour is back for a 2014 running, which started with the CPT Kickoff Series held last January 22-26, 2014 in Calgary at the Grey Eagle Casino’s 15-table poker room and in Moncton at the Casino New Brunswick Poker Bowl. The most recently held of the nine events lined up for the tour is the World Poker Tour (WPT) Fallsview Poker Classic. It ran from February 22 to 24 and saw 383 entries building a prize pool of over $1.7 million.

The CPT’s new point structure calculates points based on the base level established in accordance with the buy-in amount. The revised method rewards those who score big in the high buy-in range from $10,000 or more. At the same time, the structure gives players from the low-buy-ins ranging from $1,500-$1,999, equal chance to stay in the point system as long as they constantly cash in at lower stakes tournaments.

The idea is to help level a large playing field in which good results in a low-buy-in tournament have the same points as the good results achieved in high buy-in events. The points of the first placer will serve as the base point multiplied by the number of players paid. That way, consistent results and not the buy-in amount has more bearing.
