A high profile racehorse owner from Canada has publicly released a very scathing public letter that is aimed against Jim Watson, the mayor of Ottawa. This letter is a response of the request that was sent by the mayor to his council in order to vote in the favor of a new proposal that would make the Rideau Carleton Raceway the sole acceptable location and potential place for a casino expansion in Ottawa. Eugene Melnyk, the high profile racehorse owner has asked the council of the city of Ottawa to vote against such proposal that was presented to the council as a way to protect the Rideau Carleton Raceway’s slots operations.
Recently, the mayor of Ottawa in question, Jim Watson, stated that he is worried that if the Lottery & Gaming Corp of Ontario goes ahead with the bidding process in order to establish a new casino in the city, the racecourse will be affected negatively in terms of revenue. The OLG has once stated that there is only room for 1 casino location in the city of Ottawa.
The Ottawa business Journal stated that Eugene Melnyk was waiting for the Lottery & Gaming Corp of Ontario’s Pre Qualification process to initiate and that he wanted to propose to the OLG his property that is located close to Scotiabank Place as a potential alternative for the casino location.
The public letter that was published by Eugene Melnyk blasted the mayor and stated that since he is asking the council to approve and support the proposal, he is eliminating any chance for any future consideration for other sites.
