Lewis Kaplan, the United States District Judge who is responsible of the Black Friday case has been busy sentencing the defendants of Black Friday. Following his first sentence in the case, he handed another sentence to the payment processor of internet poker, Ira Rubin. His first sentence sent Brent Beckley of Absolute Poker to prison for fourteen months. As for the second sentence, it was a harsher one as it sent Ira Rubin who is fifty four years old to prison for 3 years.
The judge used harsh words to describe Ira Rubin while sentencing him to prison. He said that Ira Rubin was a con man who never stopped his criminal acts and that he has a long history of criminal actions. He also refused the claims that were done by Rubin that he has stopped all criminal actions after being convicted fifteen times.
According to the federal guidelines, the jail sentence should be between eighteen months and two years. Despite these guidelines, the judge decided that the risks were too high and that Rubin might continue his criminal actions. This is why he sentenced him for an extra period of time in prison and sentenced him to 3 years in jail. Rubin pleaded guilty to the charges that were against him. The charges were conspiracy charges that are related to illegal gambling, wire fraud and bank fraud.
