The new taxation system that the British govt. is trying to imply will enter a whole new stage on the 28th of June as the 3 month consultative period on that law is going to end. This new law plans to tax and regulate internet gambling operators according to the point of usage, which is the gamblers computer or smart phone rather than the location of the operator itself.
This will directly affect the operators that are located offshore outside of the UK. As if this law is passed, they will have to pay secondary taxes and acquire a secondary license to operate legally in the British market and to be able to continue their promotion in the media of the United Kingdom.
This new law has one main target, which is eliminating the defense of the online remote gambling operators who claim that the regulation and the taxes should be implemented according to the location of the servers. So if the servers are located outside of the UK, the laws and the taxes by the UK will not be applied to them.
This law intends to change all of that. It will also eliminate the advantage that off shore gambling operates have on gambling operators located in the UK. As many gambling operators operate from an off shore location in order to avoid paying taxes to the UK govt. This is why many operators have left the UK and only a few remained.
Of course with the departure of these operators, the UK has lost thousand of job opportunities. So through this law, the UK govt. is intending to level the playing field between all the operators.
