Paddy Power vs LOCOG

Paddy Power, the gambling operator and bookmaker based in Ireland has been reported to start legal action versus LOCOG (London Olympics organizer). This is due to the fact that the LOCOG has removed the advertising billboards of Paddy Power in the city of London. The advertisements that were removed by the LOCOG were promoting the company in a very clever way.

They were promoting the latest sponsorship of the company of the “Egg and Spoon Race” that is going to take place in the French town, London, Burgundy. This race has emerged during the lead that is leading to the Olympic Games of 2012.

The London Olympics organizer ordered the removal of these billboards alleging that these billboards where in breach of the advertising legislation concerned with the London Games. The Irish based Paddy Power decided to hire the services of Charles Russell, the famous law firm in order to dispute such legal claims.

The idea of the billboard was very smartly done, it was placed at the London Bridge Kings Cross & Victoria stations. The billboard stated that Paddy Power is the officially the sponsor of the biggest athletics to take place in London this year, then it clarified that it meant the “Egg and Spoon Race” in French London.

A spokesperson of the London Games 2012 stated that they don’t mind a joke, but they had to draw the line with this one. They don’t want anyone to think that there is a relationship between gambling companies and the London Olympic Games.
